Canada’s $500M Superstar Leads Blue Jays to First World Series in 32 Years
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. wants fans to know one thing: he was “born ready.” The Canadian-born power hitter — who recently signed a staggering $500 million (US) contract, the third-largest in MLB history — has become the face of the franchise and a driving force behind Toronto’s first World Series appearance since 1992.
Guerrero Jr.’s rise feels almost destined. The son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., he grew up around the game, splitting his childhood between Montreal — where his father starred for the former Montreal Expos — and the Dominican Republic. His father earned a legendary career, but never captured a World Series title.
Now, the son wants to finish the story.
“My goal is to win a World Series and hand the ring to my dad,” Guerrero Jr. told Fox Sports and Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci.
Guerrero Jr. has dominated the postseason, even earning Division Series MVP honours. His clutch hitting and explosive power have helped carry the Blue Jays to the championship stage, where they now face the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 on Friday.
